VICTORIAN RENOVATION: WEEK 13

October 25, 2017

Week 13 Before carrying out my renovations I thought I'd just be adding a knocker and painting the existing front door, internal doors and skirting to keep costs down. Turns out I ended up changing the lot, bar a few internal doors which I'll do at a later date. As most of the messy work had now been completed I could have the final joinery work done and I have listed below where I sourced everything from, as I know how long these things can take to find what's right!

Internal doors

Internal door knobs:

Aydon Decorative Mortice Knob | Wayfair. I chose these more decorative knobs for upstairs bedroom doors.

Ebonised Wooden Fully Reeded Beehive Door Knobs | Willow and Stone. I used these doorknobs for downstairs, except for the hallway. I had bought a lovely glass one from Anthropologie years ago in the sale and finally had a place to use it!

External doors

For my front door I chose a frosted glazed traditional style door, my builder got mine from a local supplier but Oakwood Doors do a similar one above.

I after much deliberating I chose Pale Jade by Designers Guild to paint it, i felt with the depressing pebbledash it need a bright fresh colour to lift it!

Front door hardwear

I chose a traditional Lion knocker from ebay but I do love the Bee and Fox below. In fact ebay is a great place to look for all hard wear, including spy holes, letter boxes, key pulls and other door knobs.

Fox Knocker |  ebay

Bee Knocker | Black country metal works

Brass Letter box | Willow and Stone

I have just come across this letter box and i love it! Due to the narrowness of my door I was limited with the hard wear I could use, but would have loved this if the door was bigger!

Spindles

I had never intended on doing anything to the stairs, but the 70's spindles they had put in previously were too far apart to pass building regulations so I had to look into changing them. I got mine from Jacksons Woodturners who have lots of styles to choose from and are very reasonably priced.

Pine Teesdale Spindle 32mm x 900mm |  Jacksons Woodturners.
